The Security System Reform (SSR) program of the International Center for Transitional Justice seeks a Research Intern starting immediately. The SSR Program believes that a legacy of serious abuse fundamentally impairs civil trust, undermines the legitimacy of the security system, and marginalizes victims. The reform of institutions to prevent serious abuses and transform an abusive security system is, therefore, a central concern of transitional justice and an important step on the road to peace and democracy. A justice-sensitive SSR approach concentrates, in particular, on three areas of reform: building the integrity of the security system; promoting its legitimacy; and empowering citizens, in particular the victims of abuses. The SSR Program's core research and program work helps to promote democratic governance, foster trust within societies, and allow victims to truly become citizens with rights, responsibilities, and needs that public institutions are called to serve. All applicants must have advanced proficiency in English. Persons who have a graduate degree, or are studying towards a graduate degree in international relations, social science, law or other relevant discipline, and a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience will be strongly favored. Open immediately. Applications to be received on a rolling basis until position is filled. To apply, please send a cover letter and CV to internships@ictj.org, referencing “SSR Intern” in the subject line. |
