Habib joined ICTJ's MENA program as Senior Associate in December 2007. Habib is a Lebanese lawyer with seven years of experience working on human rights issues in Lebanon and the MENA region. Before joining the ICTJ as a member of its full-time staff, Habib was working as a Middle East and North Africa researcher for the Human Rights Defenders Program at Human Rights First. While working for the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections in Beirut, Habib coordinated electoral reform projects, conducted extensive field research throughout Lebanon, and organized workshops to enhance political awareness and women's participation in the political process. Habib also served as legal advisor and board member for the Committee of the Families of the Abducted and Missing Persons in Lebanon through which he worked to establish truth and accountability for past crimes and develop a strategy for addressing the problem of the "missing" during the civil war. In 2005-2006 Habib worked as a consultant for the MENA Program at the ICTJ where he focused on Morocco and Lebanon. He was an Associate Attorney at the Takla, Trad, and Daouk Law Firm in Beirut between 1998 and 2004. |
