TRC Chairman In US

The Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Cllr. Jerome Verdier, Sr. is in the United States attending a conference on the challenges facing Liberia in regards to the issues of gender and reparation.

The conference is being hosted by the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) based in New York.

While in the United States, Cllr. Verdier will hold discussion with officials from the State Department, Justice Department, the World Bank, and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and the US Institute for Peace and National Security.

According to a release, the TRC Chairman will also proceed to Pennsylvania where he will meet with officials and members of the Liberian community and Liberians residing in that state.

The exercise is in consonance with the Commission's ongoing outreach initiative aimed at engaging every Liberian including those living in the Diaspora.

In a related development, six of nine Commissioners of the TRC are currently touring the 15 sub-divisions of the country in a one week assessment missions to acquaint themselves with stakeholders of the TRC process in the leeward counties.

The visitation is also intended to put into effect the Commission's public outreach agenda and galvanize support for its work.
