Learning from Greensboro: Truth and Reconciliation in the United States

In 2001 the city of Greensboro, North Carolina, began a groundbreaking effort to confront the past by establishing an independent Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to investigate the shooting deaths of five protestors and the wounding of 10 others by the Ku Klux Klan and the American Nazi Party on Nov. 3, 1979.

On Feb. 18, 2009, ICTJ Thematic Unit Director Graeme Simpson and ICTJ Reparations Program Director Lisa Magarrell will speak at a panel devoted to the work and legacy of the Greensboro TRC. The event will include a book signing of the recently published Learning from Greensboro: Truth and Reconciliation in the United States, co-authored by Magarrell.

The event will take place at Columbia University's Jerome Greene Hall, Room 103, 435 West 116th St. at Amsterdam Ave., New York, NY, from 4:30 – 6:30pm. For complete details, click here (PDF).
