The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission was established under the Bonn Agreement and is mandated to make recommendations on transitional justice to the government in Afghanistan. It was given a mandate by the new constitution in 2004, and is tasked with investigating human rights abuses and implementing and designing a human rights education program.

The Arab Institute for Human Rights is an independent Arab NGO founded in 1989, based in Tunis, Tunisia. The Institute aims to raise awareness about civil, political, cultural, social and economic human rights. It also aims to disseminate and promote human rights education through seminars, workshops, research, and surveys. It works with both international and national NGO's throughout the MENA region.

The Association for Human Rights (APRODEH) was founded in 1983 to respond to widespread and systematic human rights violations occurring in Peru. Since then, it has documented, researched, and litigated thousands of cases of forced disappearances, torture, summary executions, and other acts of violence. APRODEH was instrumental in supporting the work of the Peru Truth and Reconciliation Commission and continues to push for compliance with the Commission's recommendations and for prosecution of perpetrators of past abuses.

The Association for Truth and Reconciliation was founded in Sarajevo in April 2000 with the primary objective of establishing a Truth and Reconciliation Commission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. B92, based in Belgrade, Serbia, is a multifaceted media production company that began as a student radio station known for its mix of alternative music and independent news reporting and later expanded into television, film, music, and the Internet. B92 led the fight for freedom of information in order to report human rights violations under the Milosevic regime. It recently launched a project aimed at exposing the horrors of Yugoslavia's past decade through a series of publications, television and radio programs, and international conferences.

The Burma Lawyers' Council (BLC) is an independent human rights organization that aims to facilitate the return to democracy in Burma by undertaking legal training and research. The BLC has helped develop constitutional models and options for Burma, produced research reports on complex legal questions, and undertaken scores of training workshops on various legal issues for members of the democracy movement.

The Centre for Dealing with the Past (Documenta) is an organization based in Zagreb that aims to establish the factual truth about the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. Documenta is focused on investigation, documentation, and research on war crimes and violations of human rights and the establishment of a searchable database. The organization also serves as a network for the support of victims and witnesses.

The Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS) is a nongovernmental organization founded in 1979 to foster and protect human rights and strengthen the democratic system and state of law in Argentina. CELS was founded during the military dictatorship in response to the urgent need to take quick and decisive action to stop serious and systematic human rights violations. The Center is currently conducting research on reparations and vetting programs in Argentina.

The Centre for the Study of Human Rights (CSHR) is based at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo. Its mandate is education and research in human rights. CSHR has been a key player in building a human rights culture in Sri Lanka. The Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation is dedicated to making a meaningful contribution to a peaceful transition in South Africa by helping to shape policy through capacity-building workshops, research, and other consulting services. The mission of Conflict Management and Development Associates (CMDA) is to engage the population of Sierra Leone in more open, interactive and progressive relationships with one another, and with the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. CMDA strives towards a democratic and pluralistic society based on values such as fairness, tolerance, human dignity and respect for human rights.

The Congolese Coalition for Transitional Justice (CCJT) is a platform for human rights organizations to monitor transitional justice issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It was created in Lubumbashi in December 2004.

In Cambodia, the Documentation Center of Cambodia (DC-Cam) has worked since 1995 to collect, organize, preserve, and analyze materials related to the grave human rights abuses that occurred in Democratic Kampuchea between April 1975 and January 1979. DC-Cam now holds several hundred thousand pages of documents from the Khmer Rouge era and inputs information about those holdings into large biographical and bibliographical databases.

The East Timor Steering Committee on the Truth Commission played a pivotal role in conceptualizing and advocating for the establishment of the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation in Timor-Leste. The Steering Committee consists of representatives of political parties and key civil society organizations, particularly those working with women, youth, and former political prisoners. Together with the United Nations Human Rights Unit, it undertook a national consultation process prior to the establishment of the Commission and provided commentary on various drafts of legislation establishing the Commission.

Equitas, in Bogotá, Colombia, is a scientific organization providing free-of-charge forensic anthropological and mental health services to relatives of persons that have been forcibly disappeared or arbitrarily executed. Equitas conducts its work in close consultation with local communities in a process that is respectful of the emotional and cultural needs of victims and relatives.

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is a nonprofit research organization that works in partnership with various segments of government, business, and nongovernmental organizations. As an independent and nonpartisan organization, the CDD promotes justice and human rights by conducting research on democratic governance, monitoring the democratic progress in Ghana and elsewhere in Africa, and offering training workshops in conflict management and resolution. It has also assisted the Ghana National Reconciliation Commission.

The Greensboro Truth and Community Reconciliation Project, of Greensboro, North Carolina, is an initiative of the Beloved Community Center and the Greensboro Justice Fund, which has organized a Local Task Force and National Advisory Board to facilitate and support the installation of a truth and reconciliation commission to examine the killings that took place in that city on November 3, 1979.

Groupe Lotus is a nongovernmental organization based in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), that works to denounce human rights violations and educate the public on these issues. Groupe Lotus supports those who suffer from discrimination and oppression, and it informs, teaches, and promotes human rights and democratic principles for their advancement in the DRC.

In Guatemala, the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation (FAFG) is a technical, scientific, non-profit organization that carries out forensic-anthropological investigations. It aims to strengthen Guatemala's legal institutions and promote respect for human rights by discovering the historical truth, dignifying the victims, and contributing to the search for justice.

On the Thai-Burma border, the Human Rights Education Institute of Burma (HREIB) brings together diverse organizations documenting human rights violations in Burma. HREIB aims to create an accurate historical record of abuses committed under military rule. Through workshops, seminars, and field visits, Truth Project partners improve their documentation skills and engage in joint advocacy campaigns while also preparing for future transitional justice mechanisms, such as a truth commission and/or community-based historical memory projects.

The Human Rights Office of the Social Foundation, in Bogotá, Colombia, is part of a nonprofit social benefit organization that works toward the modification of the structural causes of poverty in Colombia, with an emphasis on peace and social harmony, organization and participation, and employment and income. The Human Rights Office has played a role in analyzing and commenting on legislative proposals that have implications for truth, justice, and reparations for victims of human rights abuse in Colombia.

The Human Rights Program of the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City organizes forums, workshops, courses, and seminars on human rights and other issues, working in collaboration with civil society organizations, national and foreign universities, and governmental agencies. The Humanitarian Law Center is a regional non-governmental human rights and humanitarian law organization, founded in 1992. It is based in Belgrade, with regional offices in Kosovo, Vojvodina and Montenegro. The Center's work is focused on documentation of war crimes with the goal of establishing a regional approach to the past and restoring the human dignity of the victims, whatever their ethnicity. The Center also issues publications and organizes conferences on topics such as war crimes trials, reconciliation, and the violation of minority rights.

The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) was formed around the idea that reflecting on the past is a critical basis for understanding the present and building a better future in South Africa. Seeking to ensure that a constitutional democratic society exists for all citizens, the IJR facilitates and encourages dialogue among South Africans of diverse backgrounds. The National Forum for Human Rights is a coalition of local and national human rights organizations in Sierra Leone that aims to ensure the maximum protection, promotion, and preservation of human rights. The National Forum advocated for an official truthseeking process prior to the signing of the Lomé Peace Agreement, which established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in July 1999, and continued to provide assistance to the Commission after its establishment. It has also been involved in monitoring and providing support to the Special Court for Sierra Leone.

The National Human Rights Coordinating Group (CNDDHH) is a coordinating body for more than 60 national human rights organizations working for justice and accountability in Peru.

The Post-conflict Reintegration Initiative for Development and Empowerment (PRIDE) is a Sierra Leonean nongovernmental organization working to advance a lasting peace through reintegration and development by ameliorating the socio-economic conditions of ex-combatants and individuals still suffering the effects of the decade-long war.

The Research and Documentation Center (Sarajevo) is an independent, nongovernmental, non-profit, and non-partisan institution. Its main task is to investigate and gather facts, documents, and data on genocide, war crimes, and human rights violations, regardless of the ethnic, political, religious, social, or racial affiliation of the victims. The Center has placed extensive material at the disposal of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, as well as Bosnian courts, NGOs, scientific institutions, and media.

The Transitional Justice Working Group in Sri Lanka (TJWG) is a coalition of civil society groups that brings together various areas of expertise, agendas, constituencies, and histories. The TJWG focuses on building collective capacity and commitment to shape the agenda of transitional justice initiatives in Sri Lanka.

UMAM Documentation & Research is a Lebanese NGO that aims to preserve and revive fading memories of civil violence and war, as well as to provide a platform for public access to, and exchange of, such memories. UMAM D&R believes that they are essential for building the future - as a key to historical and political self-analysis, to understanding national and individual identity formation, to acknowledgment and recognition of responsibility and blame, and potentially to reconciliation.
