Jihad AJ Alshomali

Palestine

Jihad AJ Alshomali (Palestine) has been working with Defense for Children International/Palestine Section (DCI/PS), where he contributed to the preparation of several publications including United to Combat Discrimination and A Guide to Human Rights. He edited Little Hands, a quarterly newsletter and conducting several research projects including Use of Children in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Perspective on Child Soldiers and Juvenile Justice: Between Reality and Laws. In October 2004, he was assigned to be the main coordinator of the international conference "Kids Behind Bars - A Child Rights Perspective" held in Bethlehem, Palestine, in June-July 2005. He was a member of Bethlehem Declaration Drafting Committee during the conference.

Innih Archibong

Nigeria

Innih Archibong (Nigeria) attended the University of Calabar, Nigeria, the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He founded Liberty Now in 1996 and is its executive director. He is the state coordinator of the several NGO coalitions and networks in Nigeria, including the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), Citizens Forum for Constitutional Reform, National NGO Coalition on Penal Reform and Earth Day Network Nigeria Now. Liberty Now provides legal aid and has organized and conducted paralegal and civic education trainings for youth and opinion leaders in the troubled Niger Delta region of Nigeria. In January 2005 he was the leader of a team that trained over 750 Niger Delta youths on democracy and non-violent advocacy. As state coordinator of TMG his organization trained and deployed hundreds of election observers during Nigeria's general and local government elections in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, Mr. Archibong participated in the Human Rights Advocates Program at the Center for the Study of Human Rights, Columbia University, New York. Upon his return to Nigeria in December 2004, he convened and became the first chairman of People United for Environmental Justice (PURE Justice), a growing international coalition on environmental and socio-economic justice in the Niger Delta and the Gulf of Guinea, coordinated by Liberty Now.

Sara Basha

Ethiopia

Sara Basha (Ethiopia) is currently pursuing an M.Phil in Justice and Transformation at the Political Studies Department, University of Cape Town. She is employed at the International Organization for Migration in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as a national program officer. She has worked on a number of African regional issues including migration and development, forced migration, trafficking in women and children, labor migration, and others. She has also worked closely with the African Union, Economic Commission for Africa and other UN agencies and international organizations on issues related to migration. Her areas of interest and focus are post-conflict peace building, development and reconciliation in Africa.

Dixon Psio Gblah

Liberia

Dixon Psio Gblah (Liberia) holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Political Science and training certificates in criminal justice, human rights, community development, conflict resolution, and human resource management. He has worked as deputy chief of surveillance with the Liberian National Police, and was a founding member, senior human rights monitor and program officer for the National Human Rights Monitor, a local human rights organization in Liberia. Mr. Gblah was founder and executive director of Liberia Prison Watch. He previously worked for the Foundation for International Dignity (FIND) as senior research and information officer. Currently, he serves as FIND's national program coordinator for Sierra Leone. Mr. Gblah was imprisoned several times under former Liberian President Charles Taylor's regime for publishing human rights reports and articles in the local media that catalogued violations and abuses committed by state security agencies. In July 2002, with assistance from Amnesty International London, he fled political persecution in Liberia and went into exile in Sierra Leone.

John Kasuku

Democratic Republic of the Congo

John Kasuku (Democratic Republic of the Congo) is originally from South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He is the field officer of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation and the technical advisor to the president of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He holds a diploma in business management and is currently reading towards a LLB at the University of Kinshasa.

Emmanuel Kisiangani

Kenya

Emmanuel Kisiangani (Kenya) holds a Master's degree in Diplomacy and International Studies from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing his PhD in Peace building and Transitional Justice at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where he also works as an assistant lecturer. Mr. Kisiangani has been working with CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation, on the Global Call to Action Against Poverty Programme, as a Millennium Development Goals mobilization and outreach associate for Africa. He has previously worked in different capacities with a number of research organizations, including the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation and Moral Majority of Kenya, and has also lectured on diplomacy, conflict management, peace building and international relations.

Nomalizo Enid Kulati

South Africa

Nomalizo Enid Kulati (South Africa) was born in Langa Township, Cape Town. She is a teacher by profession and has worked for different NGOs and CBOs. Currently, she is a community representative on the Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards at Pollsmoor Prison in Cape Town. She has always had a passion for peace-building and the struggle against human rights abuses.

Dr. Jacques Noé Vudisa Mugumbushi

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Dr. Jacques Noé Vudisa Mugumbushi (Democratic Republic of the Congo) obtained a PhD in Law from the University of Valladolid in Spain. Previously, he obtained a Master's in Legal Theory in Brussels, Belgium as well as other postgraduate degrees, including a Doctorado degree in Constitutional Law and Human Rights, a Doctorado in Legal and Economic studies of the European Union and a postgraduate degree in Environmental Impacts Assessment and Environmental Audits. He obtained his first Master's degree in Law at the University of Kinshasa, DRC. Currently, he is a lecturer at the African Academy of Legal Theory and is involved in training that the Academy is organizing in partnership with the Catholic University of Brussels. His training work, research and publications are focused on the rule of law, democracy and good governance in Africa as requirements for the protection and the promotion of human rights.

Ines Mutaboba

Rwanda

Ines Mutaboba (Rwanda) recently graduated from Queen Mary, University of London, with a BA in English. She focused her studies on the work of post-colonial writers and critics, particularly issues of identity and justice in post-conflict societies. She led numerous seminars on the responsibility of the international community, judicial systems and governments to establish long-term reconciliation and justice. Ms. Mutaboba has worked in television and radio, most recently as official translator on 'Ghosts of Rwanda,' a two hour documentary film produced by PBS and BBC. She has also worked as an interviewer with Radio 10, the first private radio station in post-genocide Rwanda. She is presently working with Anna Sher's International Peace Theatre to set up an international summer theatre school that will open in Rwanda in 2006. The school will teach theatre skills such as improvisation, voice and acting as a platform for reconciling people and promoting peace and justice through expression, to students from areas of conflict all over the world. Ms. Mutaboba hopes to further her studies in Social Development Practice, particularly in the areas of conflict management, reconciliation, social justice and development.

James Latigo Ojera

Uganda

James Latigo Ojera (Uganda) holds a BSc in economics. He has received professional awards in the fields of banking, credit analysis, microfinance, public relations, political education, and monitoring and evaluation. He has worked as a secondary school teacher; a government economist at the Ministry of Local Government; a banking officer at the Uganda Commercial Bank; with the European Union as a programme appraisal and selection officer in the West Nile Micro-Projects Programme; and an administrator with the International Rescue Committee. He has also completed a number of research and consultancy assignments. Currently, Mr. Ojera is conducting research under the auspices of Marcus-Gurvey Pan African Institute on traditional techniques of conflict resolution in Acholi. He is also coordinating the establishment of the Uganda Historical Memory and Reconciliation program.

Leopold Sudaryono

Indonesia

Leopold Sudaryono (Indonesia) holds an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Leicester, UK. He worked with several Indonesian advocacy NGOs, including LBH, Kontras and KIPP, representing people in cases involving land deprivation, labor disputes, electoral fraud and state violence. Currently, he is working with an international humanitarian organization, Oxfam Great Britain as senior programme officer - conflict reduction.

Leonora Visoka

Kosovo

Leonora Visoka (Kosovo) is a native speaker of Albanian and Serbo-Croatian and is fluent in English, Greek, Italian and French. She was recently affiliated with the Ombudsperson Institution in Kosovo where she had a key role in designing and implementing projects on institutional capacity building, conflict prevention and human rights awareness. She brings experience in journalism, human rights monitoring and peace building in countries such as Croatia, FRY of Macedonia, Cyprus and Kosovo. Ms. Visoka has been recognized by the US Department of State and the UN Security Council for her participation and contribution during the war in Kosovo. In May 2004, she completed her postgraduate degree on International Leadership and Conflict Transformation at World Learning - School for International Training in Vermont, United States. She is now very active in promoting new approaches, tools and partnerships in the field of post-conflict social development.
