Latin American Transitional Justice Fellowship ProgramOverviewIn 2004, the ICTJ established an innovative fellowship program in Santiago, Chile, in partnership with the Center for Human Rights at the Law School of the University of Chile. Now in its fourth year, this intensive course, which has approximately 25 participants, comprises both on-site and distance learning. The course is taught primarily by Professor José Zalaquett and includes visiting professors Cecilia Medina and Claudio Nash, as well as ICTJ staff members Louis Bickford and Juan Méndez. 2007 Santiago FellowshipSantiago de Chile A capacity-building program for Latin American professionals The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) and the Centro de Derechos Humanos (CDH - Human Rights Center) of the University of Chile's Law School invite applications for the Postgraduate Fellowship Course on Human Rights and Democratization Processes. The course will deal with issues related to human rights and transitions to democracy in societies that have been subjected to repressive regimes or armed conflict situations in the recent past, as well as with issues concerning the more general challenge of building viable, sustainable democratic systems. Scholarships will be offered to up to 20 professionals from different backgrounds (law, journalism, education, social sciences, among others) whose institutional affiliation or current activities demonstrate their willingness and ability to defend and promote human rights or to contribute to the construction of more just, open and peaceful democratic societies in their respective countries. The Program will include classroom-based teaching and other academic activities in Santiago de Chile (2 weeks at the beginning and 1 week at the end of the course), as well as online teaching (17 weeks). Participants who successfully complete the study program will receive a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights and Democratization Processes from the Law School of the University of Chile.
