Luc Huyse

Luc Huyse obtained his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Leuven (Belgium). He was, until his retirement in 2000, professor of sociology and sociology of law at the same university. He has written and taught extensively in Dutch, English and French on the various dimensions of justice after transition (post WWII in Europe, post-communist transitions in East and Central Europe, Africa). He has been a consultant to governments and NGOs in Burundi, Ethiopia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. He is co-editor of Reconciliation after Violent Conflict. A Handbook (Stockholm: IDEA, 2003) and of Traditional Justice and Reconciliation after Violent Conflict. Learning from African Experiences (Stockholm: IDEA, 2008). His recent Dutch language book on dealing with the past is currently being translated into French and English.
