Communications Associate - Online Presence and Outreach

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Communications Associate - Online Presence and Outreach will oversee online communications in English and develop and implement the online strategy, including the maintenance and expansion of the ICTJ website, social media channels, email communications, and the design and implementation of outreach strategies with a strong focus on increasing visibility and impact of ICTJ’s content and brand. This role is based in ICTJ's New York City office.

Major Duties & Responsibilities 

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Communications Associate will:

  • Work with the Communication Senior Associate and Communications Associate – Editor and other relevant staff to ensure maintenance and development of ICTJ brand on all digital assets, including the website, social media channels, and email products.
  •  Coordinate production of content on the website, which can include: production of visual content, drafting, editing, and posting of features; developing and maintaining site content calendar; news feed management; manage and schedule the updating of static content.
  • Coordinate production of content for social media channels, including memes and infographics
  • Coordinate and manage digital outreach strategies and campaigns to increase reach and impact of ICTJ’s digital content and other non-digital content such as publications.
  • Develop and implement the social media strategy on Facebook, Twitter, iTunes, YouTube, and others to increase reach and impact of ICTJ’s content and brand. Design and implement social media campaigns for specific digital projects, products, and events, including the mapping of influencers and targeted campaigns.
  • Coordinate ICTJ’s mailing strategy to constituents, targeted distribution of events calendar, and assist with digital distribution of ICTJ publications, press releases, and other materials.
  • Work closely with staff to plan and perform web and social media coverage of major ICTJ events. Liaise with external partners to secure on-site logistics.
  • Craft and conduct video/audio interviews with ICTJ and external transitional justice experts for ICTJ event coverage, reports or other written articles.
  • Oversee work of interns on projects related to online content and outreach, including newsfeed management, outreach databases, and contact management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Digital Marketing, Public and Media Engagement, Journalism, International Relations, Public Policy or another relevant field preferred. Relevant master’s degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant professional communications work experience, preferably in human rights, international law, social justice campaigns or non-profits and/or another related field. Minimum of 3 years professional experience in online marketing and outreach strategy development, including social media, email, SEO, SEM, and online campaigns. Language: English language required. Proficiency and/or ability to work in Spanish and/or Arabic is a strong asset.

Related Skills or Knowledge

  • Interest in human rights, transitional justice, and/or international justice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to tailor messages to specific audiences. Knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, or French is a strong added value.
  • Proven ability to strategize around impactful dissemination of online content.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage content-driven websites.
  • Experience with design software (especially Photoshop), CMS (especially Drupal), HTML, and analytics software.
  • Experience with photo research, photo-editing, and management of photographs and other digital assets and archives.
  • Superior ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines and be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; experience working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong research and analytical skills as well as the ability to solve problems and exercise good judgment.
  • Experience with bulk email programs and media databases.
  • Experience managing external vendors.
