Communications Consultant - Lebanon


Position Description: The Lebanon Communications Consultant will oversee the development, design, editing, and dissemination of Arabic-language communications products; maintain the Arabic website and manage ICTJ’s online presence in Arabic; contribute to ICTJ’s overall digital communications strategy.

Location: This position is a local home-based in Lebanon.

Requirement: Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Lebanon.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with ICTJ’s Communications Team and other relevant staff—particularly those in the MENA region or those working on related issues — to develop, implement, and evaluate online and media strategies that advance ICTJ’s programmatic and communications goals.
  • Work with the Communications Team and other relevant staff to identify key communications opportunities or priorities, specifically in the MENA region, and develop strategic messaging for Arabic-speaking audiences.
  • Manage, edit, and publish content on’s Arabic website (, which can include monitoring and curating Arabic-language media coverage of transitional justice issues (news feed management); translating content from Arabic to English and from English to Arabic; and reviewing translations and copyediting. Manage and update the website’s static content. Assist in the development and management of other websites related to projects in the MENA region.
  • Conceive, craft, and produce news features, including conducting interviews with ICTJ and external transitional justice experts, for publishing on and in coordination with the Communications team.
  • Based on the Communications Team’s content calendar, produce social media posts for Arabic-speaking audiences on Facebook, Twitter, and others.
  • Develop and strengthen linkages with the online human rights community and media in the MENA region. Manage and grow the list of relevant media outlets and influencers in the Arabic-speaking world for the targeted dissemination of ICTJ content.
  • Work closely with ICTJ’s Communications Team and other relevant staff to coordinate major ICTJ events, specifically in the MENA region, and to promote and cover them online and in social media. Liaise with external partners to secure on-site logistics, as needed.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.


Position Scope

Duties are complex and broad in nature. They require significant technical skills, project management skills, and familiarity with transitional justice concepts.


Position Requirements


Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Public Policy, or other relevant field. Relevant Master’s degree preferred.


Minimum of 5 years relevant professional communications work experience, preferably in human rights, international law, or a related field. Minimum of two years experience in developing online content, website maintenance, and social media management.



  • Must be a proficient Arabic speaker and have excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English. Excellent editing and copyediting skills in Arabic.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Experience with web design software, CMS (especially Drupal) and HTML (more advanced website coding experience a plus).
  • Experience with a wide variety of web 2.0 applications.
  • Experience with developing and executing social media campaigns.
  • Experience with bulk email software, such as MailChimp, and media databases.


Related Skills or Knowledge

  • Experience with online analytics software (Google Analytics a plus).
  • Superior ability to juggle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; experience working collaboratively as part of a small team.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, as well as the ability to solve problems and exercise good judgment.
  • Experience managing external vendors.
  • Strong interest in international affairs, particularly in human rights.
