Development Associate, Philanthropy and Private Sector


The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) is looking for a qualified Development Associate, Philanthropy and Private Sector to work on its Development team.

ICTJ is seeking qualified applicants for the position of a full-time Development Associate, Philanthropy and Private Sector. The associate manages efforts to grow philanthropic support by expanding and diversifying the existing pool of institutional donors and maintaining high standards of donor relations across the portfolio.


Under the supervision of the ICTJ Director of Development, the Development Associate will:

  • Manage the foundation portfolio by:
    • Coordinating all grant cycle activities from cultivation to stewardship
    • Working with program and finance staff to prepare proposals, reports, and budgets
    • Ensuring appropriate donor recognition
    • Recording deadlines, payments, and interactions with donors and prospects
    • Serving as a key point of contact for donors and prospects
    • Coordinating engagement with relevant stakeholders at donor organizations.
  • Expand and diversify the institutional philanthropy-private sector portfolio by:
    • Staying abreast of trends in philanthropy and, to a lesser degree, the private sector
    • Conducting prospect research
    • Work with Director of Development and program leadership to create access to new prospects
    • Manage all meeting preparation and follow up actions.
  •   Support development of the annual plan for the institutional philanthropy-private sector fundraising by providing evidence-based strategic inputs and financial projections.
  • Regularly liaise with program staff and leadership to stay abreast of goals, priorities, and activities, including by attending planning meetings, briefing sessions, etc.
  • Lead coordination of internal meetings to support fundraising activities. 
  • Collaborate with programmatic and communications colleagues to continue raising institutional brand recognition in the funding community. 
  • Provide strategic insights in development and support for special events.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in institutional philanthropy.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated interest in human rights
  • Demonstrated knowledge of philanthropic trends and of best practices in institutional philanthropy
  • Experience with direct engagement with foundations and other prospects
  • Top notch written and oral communications in English; ability to present complex work in a compelling way
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Extraordinary attention to detail
  • Ability to manage group projects and meet deadlines
  • Availability for occasional domestic or international travel
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and proficiency with fundraising databases (specifically Raisers Edge).


Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience
