The ICTJ developed a workshop series focusing on Tataouine as a Transitional Justice Region Model aiming at developing an innovative practical approach where ICTJ works closely with local CSOs youth activists, victims groups and officials to consolidate efforts seeking implementation of transformative strategies to address dictatorship-related human rights abuses and economic grievances. Following up on our first workshop, “Addressing Tataouine’s Legacy of Past Human Rights Abuses and Marginalization through Transformative Strategies," the ICTJ is holding a second remote workshop on December 3, 2021, to discuss “Addressing Tataouine’s Legacy of Human Rights Abuses and Marginalization Through Transitional Justice Tools: Redressing the Past, Building the Future."

In this workshop, participants are invited to openly discuss how the region’s demands, as expressed in the TDC Memos, can be answered through acknowledgment, remembrance, and sustainable development as a form of collective reparations. This workshop will try to open the floor for an inclusive discussion on the historic liability of the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and France. It will also try to cover how transitional justice tools can help these international actors addressing Tataouine’s past grievances, promote the victims’ right to dignity and collective reparations, while promoting accountability for corruption and institutional reforms in a context where both community and State institutions continue to suffer the heavy socio-economic impacts of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The workshop will be held with simultaneous interpretation in English and Arabic, and will be livestreamed on ICTJ's English Facebook page, and Arabic Facebook page
