The Compaz Foundation, the International Crisis Group (ICG), and the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) are pleased to invite you to a special event on the occasion of the 10-year anniversary of the Colombian Peace Agreement, featuring a conversation between former President of Colombia and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Juan Manuel Santos, with Fernando Travesí-Sanz, Executive Director of the ICTJ, and moderated by Jenifer Vaughan, Chief of External Affairs of the ICG.
Negotiations between the Colombian state and the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) successfully ended a half-century of conflict, demobilized more than 13,000 members, and ushered in dramatic reductions in conflict violence, ranging from displacement to forced recruitment to homicides.
The discussion will focus on the innovative elements of the peace agreement, including transitional justice and efforts to address the structural causes of conflict. It will also be an opportunity to reaffirm a broader global message: peace agreements are not endpoints; they are the beginning of a long-term process requiring political will, inclusive institutions, community leadership, and sustained international support.
