Our Impact and Annual Reports

ICTJ works side by side with victims, accompanying them at every step on their journey to reveal the truth about the past and obtain acknowledgment, accountability, and redress for the harms they and their communities suffered. We bring about significant change in the lives of these  women, men and children who have the right to and deserve justice. They are the protagonists of our work, as well as our partners, and we are accountable to them.

“ICTJ has enabled me to sit at the table with other stakeholders to be able to articulate issues of survivors of post-election violence.” — Jacqueline Mutere, Grace Agenda, Kenya

While progress in transitional justice is rarely linear, ICTJ never loses sight of its ultimate goals nor of the real, progressive impacts it has. As an outcome-driven organization, we accordingly endeavor to  accurately measure our results. To this end, we organize all of our work around our institutional results framework.

From 2017 to 2021 ICTJ helped more than 115,000 men and women to participate in various transitional justice processes and claim their rights

Our Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation team collects and rigorously analyzes data to determine what works and what does not and inform smarter and more effective evidenced-based approaches. To capture this complex data, the team uses an array of proven instruments including:

  • In-depth interviews
  • Surveys
  • Stakeholder analyses
  • Outcome harvesting and mapping

About 90 percent of women who participated in ICTJ activities and over 85 percent of our civil society partners reported that they improved their ability to pursue justice and demand their rights.

ICTJ conducts pioneering research on how to measure results in the field of transitional justice. We also regularly commission external evaluations to obtain unbiased evidence of our impact on the ground.

ICTJ produces annual reports describing our work, its impact, and lessons learned. For more information, see our annual reports below:
