The International Criminal Court (ICC) is bracing itself for President Donald Trump to launch aggressive economic sanctions against it this week after his inauguration. This possible move has incited fear which could paralyze its work and pose a major threat. 

Southeast Asian nations have told Myanmar’s military government its plan to hold an election amid an escalating civil war should not be its priority, urging it to start dialogue and end hostilities immediately. 

The foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) called on Myanmar to stop the fighting and told its representative to allow unhindered humanitarian access.

The administration of outgoing United States President Joe Biden has imposed sanctions on the head of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.  

In a statement on Thursday, January 16, the U.S. Treasury Department stated the SAF has committed lethal attacks on both civilians and infrastructure under al-Burhan’s leadership.
