There were "serious breaches" of international law and crimes against humanity were committed during the two-year Tigray War, according to a report released by U.S. think tank New Lines Institute.

Before former President Omaral-Bashir was overthrown in a military coup, a civilian-led movement had levied consistent demands that the president step down. Despite calls for peace talks and a ceasefire, the Sudanese army is rejecting calls to de-escalate the fighting in El Fasher. This comes after a conversation on May 28th between General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, during which Blinken reportedly urged for unhindered humanitarian access and an end to the war.

In the wake of inaugurating a new president, the Taiwanese people are revisiting the ongoing debate over how to remember the legacy of former authoritarian ruler Chiang Kai-Shek. In a recent statement on June 3, the Taiwan Association for Truth and Reconciliation urged the government to take concrete action over the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei. Similar efforts are mounting to take down statues of Chiang Kai-Shek around Taiwan.
