Ariel Henry resigned on April 25 as prime minister of Haiti, leaving the way clear for a new government to be formed in the Caribbean country, which has been wracked by gang violence that killed or injured more than 2,500 people from January to March.

Henry presented his resignation in a letter signed in Los Angeles, dated April 24, and released on April 25 by his office on the same day that a council tasked with choosing a new prime minister and cabinet for Haiti was sworn in.

A Palestinian civil defence team on April 25 called on the United Nations to investigate what it said were war crimes at a Gaza hospital, saying nearly 400 bodies were recovered from mass graves after Israeli soldiers departed the complex.

Belgrade Higher Court on April 24 found seven former members of the 177th Yugoslav Army Unit guilty of war crimes for their involvement in deadly attacks on four villages in the Peja/Pec area in April and May 1999 during the Kosovo war.

The 177th Yugoslav Army Unit’s commander, Toplica Miladinovic, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for knowingly ordering his subordinates to commit war crimes and other violations of the Geneva Conventions in the villages of Lubeniq/Ljubenic, Qyshk/Cuska, Pavlan/Pavljan, Zahaq/Zahac in April and May 1999.

Indonesia’s electoral commission has formally declared Prabowo Subianto president-elect in a ceremony, after the country’s highest court rejected challenges to his win by rival candidates.

Prabowo, 72, a former general dogged by allegations of human rights abuses, won a landslide victory in February’s elections, but his two opponents claimed that the vote had been undermined by state interference and unfair rule changes.
