He was arrested three days after a drone carrying explosives blew up at a military parade attended by President Nicolás Maduro on August 4, 2018.

Maduro was not hurt in the attack.

Requesens has denied any involvement in the incident and his family say he was targeted because he is an outspoken critic of the Maduro government.

A former student leader, he became well known for organising anti-government protests.

South Sudan's transitional government will remain in power for another two years, its president said on Thursday, delaying elections that were scheduled for December this year, raising concerns among Western nations supporting its peace process.

South Sudan declared independence from Sudan in 2011, making it the world's newest nation amid celebrations and pledges of support from world powers.
