Cambodian and Thai Officials Meet in Malaysia to Iron Out Ceasefire Details 

Thai and Cambodian officials met in Malaysia for the first round of cross-border committee talks since a tense ceasefire was brokered last week after five days of deadly armed border clashes that killed dozens and displaced over 260,000 people. 

Monday’s talks focused on ironing out details to avoid further clashes.

Colombia’s still-powerful former president Álvaro Uribe has been sentenced to 12 years of house arrest, capping a long and contentious career that defined the country’s politics for a generation. Uribe, aged 73, received the maximum possible sentence after being found guilty of witness tampering. The lengthy house arrest, which is due to be publicly announced on Friday, marks the first time in Colombia’s history that a former president has been convicted of a crime and sentenced.

US Sanctions Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Overseeing Case Against Bolsonaro 

The U.S. Treasury Department said Wednesday it was imposing sanctions on Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes over alleged suppression of freedom of expression and the ongoing trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro is accused of masterminding a plot to stay in power despite his 2022 election defeat to current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Moraes oversees that case.
