South Korea Issues Arrest Warrant for Ex-President Yoon

A South Korean court has issued an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Suk-yeol over his attempt to impose martial law on December 3. Yoon had appeared in a Seoul court on Wednesday for a seven-hour hearing to review the arrest warrant requested by prosecutors, and was then taken to a detention center while he waited for the court’s decision.  

7 Newly Identified Srebrenica Victims Will Be Buried on the Bosnian Massacre Anniversary

Flowers tucked on its side, a blue truck carried coffins with the remains of seven newly identified victims of the 1995 massacre in Srebrenica on their final journey through Bosnia to be buried on the 30th anniversary of Europe's only acknowledged post-World War II genocide. Dozens of people in the Bosnian town of Visoko paid their respects on rainy Wednesday morning as the truck departed in a convoy toward the capital Sarajevo, where it will stop on its way to Srebrenica.  

ICTJ Convenes International Dialogue in Geneva to Support Syria’s National Commissions for Transitional Justice and the Missing 

On July 10 and 11, ICTJ convened a high-level dialogue in Geneva that brought members of Syria’s newly established transitional justice commissions together with international experts and representatives from Syrian civil society represented by the Bridges of Truth project and victims’ groups and multilateral institutions. The two-day event provided guidance to the commissioners as they develop and implement their mandates and supported Syrian-led efforts to build transparent and inclusive institutions.

UN Chief ‘Strongly Condemns’ Russian Drone Assault on Ukraine 

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned a Russian drone and missile attack against Ukraine this week that has been described as the largest such assault in the three-year war. Ukrainian officials said Moscow fired more than 500 drones and 11 missiles at the capital Kyiv overnight into Friday in an attack that killed one person, injured at least 23 others, and damaged buildings across the city.  

Mali Military Chief Granted Renewable Five-Year Presidential Term

Mali’s military authorities have granted coup leader Assimi Goita a five-year presidential mandate, renewable “as many times as necessary” and without requiring an election. The country’s transitional parliament approved the move, clearing the way for Goita to lead Mali until at least 2030. The bill on Thursday was unanimously backed by the 131 members present in the National Transitional Council, according to AFP and Mali’s state-run L’Essor website.
