Kanya Adam currently teaches in the Department of Political Science at Simon Fraser University where her work focuses on Peacemaking in Divided Societies and Transitional Justice. She completed her doctoral degree at St. Peter’s College, Oxford University and her B.A. in International Relations at the University of British Columbia. Her work has focused on Conflict in Divided Societies, Human Rights, Comparative Truth and Reconciliation Commissions and Restorative Justice. She has lived and conducted research in South Africa, Germany, Canada and France. Her book “The Colour of Business: Managing Diversity in South Africa” examined policies on employment equity and the politics of redress in comparative perspective. She has worked in the areas of communications, peacemaking and restorative justice including advising the French Government on its role in reconciliation and a post-apartheid South Africa.
She is the Past President and Chair of MOSAIC, a multilingual non-profit organization dedicated to addressing issues that affect immigrants and refugees in the course of their settlement and integration into Canadian society. She is also a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
