New Gang Violence in Haiti Displaces Hundreds of People

A new wave of gang violence in Haiti’s capital forced hundreds to flee their homes over the weekend, leaving families scattered along the road to the country’s main airport on Monday. 
   
Gangs have overtaken more than 70% of Port-au-Prince since the assassination of President Jovenal Moïse in July 2021 at his home. That number was as high as 90% but has dropped. Police say they have expanded their activities—including looting, kidnapping, sexual assaults, and rape—into the countryside. Haiti has not had a president since the assassination. 

Armed Conflict Last Year in Colombia Hit Civilians the Hardest in a Decade, Red Cross Says

The impact of armed conflict on civilians in Colombia over the past year has been the worst in a decade as the country’s security situation deteriorates, the International Committee of the Red Cross said Tuesday in an annual report. 
  
The humanitarian group said the number of people displaced as criminal gangs and rebels fight the Colombian state and each other doubled in 2025, reaching 235,000 people. Meanwhile, the number of people who had to endure lockdowns imposed by rebel groups in small towns and villages increased by 99% last year. 
  

Nigerian Military Airstrike Kills 100 Civilians at a Market, Rights Group Claims

Nigeria ‘s military Tuesday denied a rights group’s claim that an airstrike killed 100 civilians in a market over the weekend, as attention turned again to a long-running fight against armed groups in the country’s volatile north. 
  
Amnesty International in a statement Monday said a military airstrike on Sunday hit a market in Tumfa in Zamfara state. A Red Cross official in the state, Ibrahim Bello Garba, confirmed the strike to The Associated Press and said “multiple civilians” were killed. 
  

Israeli Attacks Kill At Least Four in Southern Lebanon

Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have killed at least four people and wounded eight others, according to Lebanese media. 
  
The state National News Agency (NNA) reported injuries to two medics as they rushed to offer aid to victims of the latest attacks by the Israeli military in violation of the official ceasefire. 
  
Two men were killed and five others injured in an air raid on the town of Ebba in Nabatieh. 
  

Rebel Fighters Kill at Least 69 People in Northeastern DR Congo

An attack by armed rebels has killed at least 69 people in Ituri province in the conflict-torn northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to security officials. 
  
For more than 30 years, the mineral-rich eastern DRC has been a battleground for various armed groups, vying for control of its many mines. 
 
Two ethnic groups—the Hema and the Lendu—have been locked in a long-running violent conflict in Ituri, a gold-rich province that borders Uganda and South Sudan. 
  

Islamic Militants Attack Congo Villages Near Uganda, Killing 40 people, Local Group Says

An Islamic State-affiliated group attacked villages in Congo near the border with Uganda, killing at least 40 people and burning and looting homes, a local civil society group said Friday. 
 
The attacks were carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) overnight from Wednesday through Thursday afternoon, according to Charité Banza, the leader of the Ituri civil society group and Kinos Katua, a member of the group who lives in the area. 
 

U.S. Issues New Cuba Sanctions as UN Experts Warn of ‘Energy Starvation’

The United States has imposed a host of new sanctions related to Cuba, amid a months-long pressure campaign against the island nation. 
  
The sanctions on Thursday were announced hours after United Nations experts decried Washington’s effective fuel blockade of the island as tantamount to “energy starvation.” 
 
On Thursday, three UN special rapporteurs condemned what they called the “unlawful blockade”, which they said “is not only disrupting daily life but also undermining the enjoyment of a wide range of human rights”. 

Deadly Double Attack Hits 2 Central Mali Villages as Violence Spreads

The attacks, which have been claimed by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), followed last month’s heavy assaults on the government by the group and a Tuareg separatist group, the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA). The FLA has been seeking to secede from the northern region of the West African nation. 
 

UN Demands Israel Release Gaza Flotilla Activists, Investigate Abuse Claims

The United Nations has called for the immediate release of two Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla activists abducted by Israeli authorities last week, calling for an investigation into the “disturbing accounts of severe mistreatment”. 
  
Israel must “immediately and unconditionally” release activists Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Avila, who continue to be held without charge, UN rights office spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan said in a statement on Wednesday.
