NEW YORK, January 27th, 2017 - The International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) has formally accepted the invitation to participate in Colombia’s Selection Committee, reflecting its commitment to work for peace and victims’ rights in that country. It has not yet selected its delegate, contrary to prior reports.
The Selection Committee is responsible for the selection of magistrates who will form the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, the body charged with prosecuting serious crimes related to the armed conflict.
“We haven’t yet determined who our delegate will be. In order to be able to make that decision, we are waiting to confirm certain operative aspects and details with the Implementation Verification Commission,” ICTJ President David Tolbert said.
ICTJ has worked for peace and victims’ rights in Colombia since 2006, and will continue to do so. It reaffirms its commitment and willingness to offer its knowledge and national and international experience in support of the full implementation of the Comprehensive System for Truth, Justice, Reparations, and Guarantees of Non-Recurrence contained in the new peace accord.
