Central African Republic Confirms Touadéra’s Election Win Despite Fraud Claims

The Central African Republic’s Constitutional Council on Monday confirmed President Faustin-Archange Touadéra’s victory in last month’s election, granting him a third term and rejecting an appeal by the opposition alleging widespread fraud and other irregularities. 
 
The council dismissed an appeal to annul the election filed by Dologuélé due to a lack of supporting documents. 
 

Syria Announces Ceasefire Agreement with Kurd-Led SDF after Heavy Fighting

The Syrian government has announced a ceasefire has been agreed with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that will involve the withdrawal of the latter’s forces from areas west of the Euphrates River, according to Syrian state media. 
  
Sunday’s deal will also see SDF forces integrate into the Syrian military. 
 
The agreement comes after days of fighting between the Syrian government and the SDF in northeastern Syria. The army and the SDF had been clashing over strategic posts and oilfields along the Euphrates River. 

Two Killed, Dozens Wounded in Large Russian Drone Attacks Across Ukraine

Two people have been killed and dozens injured in overnight Russian drone attacks across Ukraine, where strikes on energy infrastructure have caused power outages in freezing temperatures, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 
  
In a social media post on Sunday, Zelenskyy said the Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions were targeted in an attack that included more than 200 drones. 
  

Yemen’s Saudi-Backed Government Appoints New Prime Minister

Yemen’s Saudi-backed ‍presidential leadership ‍council has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Salem bin Breik and appointed Foreign Minister Shaya Mohsin al-Zindani as the ⁠country’s new prime minister, the state news agency Saba has reported. 
  
Bin Breik formally ‍submitted the resignation, which was approved by the council, before Zindani was named to form the next cabinet, ‍Saba said on Thursday. 
 
Yemen ⁠has been a source of heightened tensions in recent months between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. 

Israeli Strikes Kill Two in Lebanon, UN Forces Report Drone Attack

Israeli strikes have killed two people in Lebanon, according to the Lebanese health ministry, in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah. 
  
In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Public Health said an “Israeli enemy strike” on a vehicle in Mansuri in southern Lebanon had killed one person. 
 
It also said that a strike on the southern town of Mayfadun killed one person the previous night.  
  

Cuba Launches Mass Demonstration to Decry U.S. Attack on Venezuela and Demand Maduro’s Release

Tens of thousands of Cubans demonstrated Friday outside the U.S. Embassy in Havana to decry the killing of 32 Cuban officers in Venezuela and demand that the U.S. government release former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. 
 
They crowded into the open-air “José Martí Anti-Imperialist” plaza across from the embassy in a rally organized by the Cuban government as tensions between Cuba and the U.S. spike following the U.S. attack Jan. 3 on Venezuela. 
 

Israel Kills 10 in Gaza as U.S. Declares Phase Two of Ceasefire Deal Launched

Israel killed at least 10 Palestinians across Gaza, just as the United States announced that the two sides had progressed to the second phase of a 20-point ceasefire deal with Hamas to end the conflict. 
  
The Wafa news agency reported that the Israeli military bombed two houses belonging to the al-Hawli and the al-Jarou families in the central town of Deir el-Balah on Thursday evening, with health officials confirming a 16-year-old minor was among six killed. 
  

Trial Opens in Gambia of Leader of Notorious Death Squad during Jammeh Era

A Gambian court on Thursday opened the trial of one of the leaders of former dictator Yahya Jammeh ‘s notorious death squad. 
  
Sanna Manjang, who headed a feared paramilitary unit called the “ Junglers ” under Jammeh, is accused by state prosecutors of two counts of murder dating back to 2006. He denies the charges. 
  

Community Leader Says Armed Men Kill 15 People in Northwestern Cameroon 

Armed men killed at least 15 people, including eight children, during an attack on Wednesday in northwestern Cameroon, a community leader said. 
  
The early-morning attack occurred in Gidado, in the remote Ndu area of the embattled English-speaking northwest, local chief Tata Ndzisshoto told The Associated Press. 
  

Discussions to End Sudan War Resume in Cairo as It Nears the 3-Year Mark

Sudan peace efforts resumed in Cairo on Wednesday with Egypt and the United Nations calling on warring parties to agree to a nationwide humanitarian truce, as the war between the army and its rival paramilitary nears the three-year mark. 
  
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty told reporters that Egypt wouldn’t accept the collapse of Sudan or its institutions, or any attempt to undermine its unity or divide its territory, describing such scenarios as “red lines.”
