New fighting has broken out along the Thailand-Cambodia border as foreign ministers from Southeast Asian nations met in Malaysia to find a resolution to the deadly conflict between the two neighbors. 
  
The clashes early on Monday threatened to undermine diplomatic efforts by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to revive a ceasefire deal that was first brokered in July by Malaysia and United States President Donald Trump. 
 

Israel Launches New Raids in Syria’s Quneitra, Establishes Checkpoints

Israeli forces have advanced into the Quneitra area of Syria’s occupied Golan Heights and set up two military checkpoints, an Al Jazeera correspondent on the ground reports. 
  
The Israeli military operation on Saturday took place in the villages of Ain Ziwan and al-Ajraf in the southern part of the country. 
 

Bulgarians Protest Widespread Graft and Call for a Fair Election 

Tens of thousands of people on Thursday filled the streets of Bulgaria’s capital and other major cities in the country, calling for a fair election and an independent judiciary able to effectively fight widespread corruption. 
  
The demonstrations in Sofia and elsewhere came after last week’s protests sparked by the government’s budget plans for higher taxes and spending increases. The government later withdrew the contentious 2026 budget plan but eventually bowed to people’s demands and stepped down. 
  

Violent Protests in Bangladesh after Pro-Democracy Figure Dies in Hospital

Violence broke out in Bangladesh’s capital after a youth leader of the country’s 2024 pro-democracy uprising, who was injured in an assassination attempt, died in a hospital in Singapore. 
  
Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Dhaka early on Friday after the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, 32, was announced, to demand that his killers be arrested. 
  
Several buildings in the capital, including those housing the country’s two leading newspapers, were set on fire, according to authorities, with staff trapped inside. 

RSF Artillery Strikes Kill 16 Civilians in Sudan’s Embattled Kordofan

At least 16 people have been killed in an artillery bombardment of a besieged city in Sudan’s embattled Kordofan region, adding to a mounting civilian death toll as the country’s brutal civil war enters a critical phase deep into its third year. 
  
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies in the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North shelled residential areas of Dilling in South Kordofan over the past two days into Friday, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, a medical monitoring group. 

UN Chief Guterres Condemns Houthi Detention of 10 More UN Staff in Yemen

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the detention of 10 more UN staff members by the Houthis in Yemen. 
  
Stephane Dujarric, a spokesperson for Guterres, confirmed on Friday that the previous day’s arrests had brought the total of detained local staffers to 69, calling for their immediate release. 
 

Israel Strikes Hit Southern, Eastern Lebanon in Latest Truce Violation

Israeli warplanes have struck multiple areas across southern and eastern Lebanon, targeting sites in al-Jabour, al-Qatrani and al-Rayhan in the south, as well as Buday and Hermel in the Bekaa Valley, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent on the ground. 
  
The raids, which also hit Wadi Al-Qusayr near the town of Deir Siryan, mark the latest in a relentless pattern of strikes since a ceasefire took effect in late 2024.

The arbitrary detention of hundreds of gen Z protesters in Morocco and alleged “horrific” beatings have been condemned by human rights groups, as the country prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday. 

A wave of youth-led demonstrations swept across Morocco in late September and early October—the biggest since the 2011 Arab spring—in protest at underfunded healthcare and education.
