Syria Launches First Trial over Coastal Violence that Killed Thousands

Syria has launched the trial of the first of hundreds of suspects for their role in deadly clashes earlier this year that killed hundreds in the country’s coastal provinces. 
  
Syrian state media reported on Tuesday that 14 people were brought before Aleppo’s Palace of Justice following a months-long, government-led investigation.  
 
Hundreds of people from the Alawite religious minority, to which ousted President Bashar al-Assad belonged, were killed in the massacres in March. 
  

Brazil Creates New Indigenous Territories During Protest-Hit COP30 

COP30 host Brazil has created 10 new Indigenous territories, with the climate summit hit by protests in recent days. 
  
The designation means the areas, including one in part of the Amazon, will have their culture and environment protected under Brazilian law—though this is not always enforced. 
  
The move follows similar actions from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, whose government recognized Indigenous possession of 11 territories last year. 
   

Israeli Attack on Palestinian Refugee Camp in Lebanon Kills At Least 13

At least 13 people have been killed in an Israeli air strike on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. 
  
The drone strike hit a car on Tuesday in the car park of a mosque in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp on the outskirts of the coastal city of Sidon, the Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported. 
 
At least four people were wounded in the attack, the ministry said, adding that “ambulances are still transporting more wounded to nearby hospitals.” 

UN Security Council Passes U.S. Resolution Backing International Gaza Force

The United Nations Security Council has approved a resolution mandating a transitional administration and an International Stabilization Force in Gaza that envisions a “credible pathway” to Palestinian statehood. 
  
The resolution, drafted by the United States as part of President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan, passed in a 13-0 vote on Monday, paving the way for the crucial next steps for the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Russia and China abstained from the vote. 
 

Former Bangladesh Leader Hasina Sentenced to Death for Crackdown on Uprising that Ousted Her 

Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and one of her close aides were sentenced to death Monday over her crackdown on a student uprising last year that killed hundreds of people and led to the toppling of her 15-year rule. 
  
The International Crimes Tribunal, based in Dhaka, the capital, passed the sentence on Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan for their involvement in the use of deadly force against protesters. 
  

UN Peacekeepers Say Israeli Forces Fire on Them in Southern Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) says Israeli soldiers have shot at its peacekeepers in their latest targeting of UNIFIL as Israel continues to attack Lebanon on a near-daily basis in violation of a yearlong ceasefire in its war against Hezbollah. 
  
Israeli forces on Sunday “fired on UNIFIL peacekeepers from a Merkava tank from near a position Israel has established in Lebanese territory”, the peacekeepers said in a statement, adding heavy-machinegun rounds hit about 5 meters from their personnel. 
 

Caribbean Reparations Leaders in ‘Historic’ First UK Visit to Press for Justice 

A delegation from the body leading the Caribbean’s slavery reparations movement will be in the UK next week for a “historic” first official visit to advocate for former British colonies. 
  
The Caricom Reparations Commission (CRC) will be meeting with UK parliamentarians, Caribbean diplomats, academics, and civil society groups from 17 to 20 November. 
  

Clashes in Mexico City amid Gen-Z Styled Protests over Crime and Corruption

Thousands of people have rallied across Mexico, protesting against growing crime, corruption, and impunity, in demonstrations that were organized by members of Generation Z. 
  
The marches on Saturday were attended by people from several age groups. 
 
In Mexico City, protesters tore down fences around the National Palace where President Claudia Sheinbaum lives, prompting a clash with riot police who deployed tear gas, according to media reports.
