Judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Thursday confirmed war crimes and crimes against humanity charges against Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, who remains at large. 
  
A three-judge panel found “substantial grounds” to believe Kony is responsible for 29 counts, including murder, sexual enslavement, and rape while he led the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army that terrorized northern Uganda. 
  

Pakistan and Afghanistan Resume Peace Talks in Istanbul After Deadly Border Clashes

Officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan were in talks in Turkey on Thursday in an effort aimed at ensuring peace along their shared border, state-run media in Pakistan reported. 
  
Deadly border clashes that erupted last month between the two countries killed dozens of people, including soldiers, civilians and suspected militants, and wounded hundreds on both sides. 
  

Bolivia Top Court Orders Release of Former Interim President Jeanine Anez

Bolivia’s Supreme Court has overturned the 10-year prison sentence of former interim President Jeanine Anez, who was convicted over an alleged plot to oust her left-wing predecessor, Evo Morales. 
  
Supreme Court Justice Romer Saucedo told reporters on Wednesday that the sentence against Anez, who has been imprisoned for more than four years, had been annulled based on “violations” of due process during her trial.

An attack on a funeral in the key city of el-Obeid in Sudan’s North Kordofan state has killed 40 people, according to the United Nations. 
  
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, citing local sources, said on Tuesday the attack in the state capital, which is still being held by the government-aligned Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), occurred without specifying when it took place or who was behind it.

Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon, Killing Two and Wounding Seven

Israeli attacks have killed two people and wounded seven others in southern Lebanon, a day after Israel threatened to escalate its assault on alleged Hezbollah targets. 
 
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health on Monday said that an Israeli strike on the town of Doueir in Nabatieh province killed one person and injured seven.

President Hassan Sworn in Following Deadly Tanzania Election

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in for a second term, following a landslide victory in a disputed election that prompted deadly protests across the country. 

Hassan took the oath of office during a ceremony on Monday at a military base in the capital, Dodoma. The event was closed to the public following the violence that accompanied a vote in which the two main opposition challengers were barred from running. 

Tension remained high in the commercial capital, Dar-es-Salaam, following three days of election protests.
