Israel Kills Top Hezbollah Commander in Attack on Lebanon’s Capital 

Hezbollah has confirmed that its top military commander Haytham Ali Tabatabai has been killed in an Israeli air strike on Lebanon’s capital. 
  
Tabatabai, the chief of staff of the group’s armed wing, was among at least five people killed in the attack on an apartment block in the Hezbollah stronghold of Dahiyeh in southern Beirut on Sunday. 
  
Tabatabai is the most senior Hezbollah commander to be killed by Israel since the start of a November 2024 ceasefire aimed at ending over a year of hostilities between the two.

Seven Bodyguards Arrested over Mexican Mayor's Murder

Seven bodyguards have been arrested over their alleged involvement in the murder of a popular Mexican mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, authorities have said. 
   
The office of the attorney general of Michoacán state said in a brief statement that the public servants had been detained "for their probable participation in the crime of aggravated homicide, in commission by omission" in relation to Manzo's killing.

An Islamic State-backed rebel group killed 89 people during attacks on multiple villages in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the UN peacekeeping mission in the country said Friday. 
  
In the village of Byambwe, around 60 kilometers west of the town of Lubero, the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) killed at least 17 people in a hospital on Saturday, including 11 women receiving care in a maternity ward.

Police in Mexico have arrested a man they accuse of being the mastermind behind the murder of a popular mayor. 
  
Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan, was shot dead on 1 November at a public event marking the Day of the Dead. 
  
Manzo was an outspoken critic of cartel violence in his home state of Michoacán and his assassination triggered mass protests. 
  
Mexico's security minister said the man suspected of ordering his murder had links to the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel. 
  

Nigeria Jails Separatist Leader Nnamdi Kanu for Life on ‘Terrorism’ Charges 

A Nigerian court has sentenced separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu to life in prison after convicting him on seven charges related to “terrorism” in a years-long trial. 
  
In his ruling on Thursday, Nigerian Judge James Omotosho said prosecutors proved that Kanu’s broadcasts and orders to his now-banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group incited deadly attacks on security forces and citizens in the southeast. 
  
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty against Kanu, but Omotosho said he chose to show mercy. 
  

Pakistani Forces Step Up Raids Near the Afghan Border, Killing 23 Militants

Pakistani security forces raided two Pakistani Taliban hideouts in the country’s northwest near the Afghan border, triggering intense shootouts that left 23 militants dead, the military said Thursday. 
  
The raids took place on Wednesday in Kurram, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to a military statement. The operation followed raids earlier this week across northwestern Pakistan that the army said killed 38 militants.

At least 28 Palestinians have been killed in a wave of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, medical sources tell Al Jazeera, in one of the largest breaches of the United States-brokered ceasefire that came into effect last month. 
  
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said on Wednesday at least 77 Palestinians were also wounded in Israeli bombardment, according to a preliminary toll. 
 

At Least 25 Killed in Russian Attacks on War-Torn Ukraine’s Ternopil 

At least 25 people have been killed, including three children, and nearly 100 wounded in a barrage of Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukraine. 
  
Strikes on the city of Ternopil were the deadliest for weeks and the worst in the west of the country far from the front line since Moscow invaded in 2022. 
 
The attack came on Wednesday as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Turkiye for talks on ending the war caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion two years ago.
