Programs Intern

Program Interns will gain a broad range of hands-on experience supporting ICTJ’s cutting-edge global transitional justice initiatives. Interns will work in close coordination with members of our Program Team to support ongoing and emerging projects across a variety of regional and thematic areas. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain extensive knowledge about key issues relating to transitional justice and human rights from leading experts in the field.

Under supervision by an assigned advisor, interns will:

  • Take part in research, analysis, writing, and editing involved in producing memoranda, reports, studies, and policy briefs.
  • Support the Program Team in the organization and preparation of upcoming workshops and events.
  • Follow relevant political, legal, and social issues and updates related to specific projects or country contexts, keeping teams informed on issues that might impact programmatic activities.
  • Support research design and data analysis for ongoing projects.
  • Perform other relevant duties from the Program Team and Senior Staff as assigned.
  • Interns are encouraged to attend ICTJ events, open meetings, and other local human rights-related events to foster their understanding of current trends in transitional justice.

The duration of the Program Internship typically lasts 3 months, with the possibility of extension. Please indicate in your application how long you would be able to intern at ICTJ, and whether you would like to be full-time or part-time. We highly prefer applicants who are based in the US, specifically within the broader NYC region, who can work from the ICTJ headquarters once or twice a week throughout the duration of their internship; however, we will consider highly qualified remote candidates. Applicants pursuing or who have recently completed a postgraduate degree, especially those with relevant legal experience/training, will be prioritized. Please note that all ICTJ internships are unpaid. Students should check with their academic institution to determine if they are eligible to receive academic credit for this internship.
