For Luz Elena Galeano, whose husband disappeared two decades ago in Medellín’s conflict, joining 40 other women to monitor daily excavations at La Escombrera has become routine. The debris landfill on the city’s outskirts has yielded the remains of six people in the last eight months. 

The effort is part of an ambitious forensic project by the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, a tribunal established in 2018 to investigate and prosecute crimes that happened during Colombia’s armed conflict, often by rebel groups who kept hostages for ransom.

ICC Presents Evidence Against Warlord Joseph Kony in First in Absentia Hearing

International Criminal Court prosecutors will present evidence on Tuesday to back up charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity against notorious fugitive Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony at the global court’s first-ever in absentia hearing. 

Kony faces dozens of counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, sexual enslavement, and rape for allegedly leading the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army that terrorized northern Uganda. 

Largest Russian Air Attack of War Sets Fire to Ukrainian Cabinet Building

Russia has launched its largest ever air attack on Ukraine, hitting a key government building in Kyiv for the first time and killing at least three people, including a mother and her baby, and drawing widespread condemnation. 

The bombardment of the capital with a large number of drones and missiles injured at least 18 people and set scores of buildings on fire. Authorities accused Russia of deliberately striking civilian targets.   

Israel Intensifies Gaza City Destruction, Bombs Another High-Rise Tower

Israel has destroyed another high-rise in Gaza City, bringing the number of buildings razed during its campaign to seize the largest urban center in the Gaza Strip to at least 50, according to the Palestinian Civil Defense. 

The attack on Al-Ruya Tower on Sunday came as Israeli forces killed at least 65 people across the Gaza Strip, including 49 in the northern part of the besieged enclave. 

Boko Haram Militants Kill 60 in an Attack in Nigeria’s Northeast

Boko Haram militants killed dozens of people in a nighttime assault on a village in northeastern Nigeria that is home to residents who had recently returned from a camp for internally displaced persons, authorities said. 

The attack on Darul Jamal in the Bama local government area took place late Friday and killed at least 60 people, a resident of the village, Mohammed Babagana, told The Associated Press.   

The chairman of Bama’s local government, Modu Gujja, said over a dozen houses were burnt and more than 100 people were forced to flee. 

UN Suspects All Sides in DR Congo Conflict Guilty of War Crimes

Gross rights violations, possibly including war crimes and crimes against humanity, may have been committed by the Rwanda-backed M23 militia and the Congolese military and its affiliates in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to United Nations investigators. 

A fact-finding mission by the UN Human Rights Office said on Friday that it has determined that all sides in the devastating conflict had committed abuses since late 2024, including summary executions and rampant sexual violence in the provinces of North and South Kivu. 

26 Nations Pledge Post-War Security Support for Ukraine, Macron Says

Twenty-six countries have offered to contribute to Ukraine's security after any ceasefire deal with Russia, French President Emmanuel Macron said after a summit on Thursday, adding that U.S. support would be finalized in coming days. 

A summit of Kyiv "coalition of the willing" allies to firm up security guarantees if or when there is a peace deal in Ukraine was followed by a video conference with U.S. President Donald Trump. 

U.S. and Panama Propose New Force of 5,550 in Haiti with the Power to Detain Gang Suspects

The United States and Panama are urging the UN Security Council to authorize a 5,550-member force with the power to detain gang members in Haiti to help stop the escalating violence.  

The two countries outlined their proposal to transform the Kenya-led multinational force now deployed in the Caribbean nation into a much larger force in a draft resolution to the UN Security Council obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.  

Israeli Attacks Disabled 21,000 Palestinian Children in Gaza War, UN Says

At least 21,000 children have been disabled in Gaza since Israel’s genocidal war on the besieged enclave broke out nearly two years ago, a United Nations committee has said. 

The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) reported that about 40,500 children have suffered “new war-related injuries” during the war, leaving more than half of them disabled.

UNIFIL Says Israeli Drones Drop Grenades Near Peacekeepers in Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) says Israeli drones have dropped four grenades close to its peacekeepers in southern Lebanon near the border with Israel. 

“This is one of the most serious attacks on UNIFIL personnel and assets since the cessation of hostilities agreement of last November,” UNIFIL said in a statement on Wednesday. 

“One grenade impacted within 20 metres [22 yards] and three within approximately 100 metres [110 yards] of UN personnel and vehicles.”
