Israel Carries out Drone Strike in Southern Lebanon, Killing One Person

At least one person has been killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA), as near-daily attacks by Israel continue despite a November ceasefire. 

The attack on Monday hit an excavator in the Shamsiyah area of Sohmor in the Bekaa Valley, killing its driver.  

Local media reported that dozens of Israeli drones flew at low altitude over several villages in southern and eastern Lebanon. One drone targeted the town of Aitaroun on Monday afternoon while another bombed a house in Houmin al-Fauqa.  

Madagascar’s President Fires the Government Following Days of Deadly Gen Z Protests

Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina fired the prime minister and the rest of his government Monday in response to days of deadly Gen Z-led protests in the Indian Ocean island over the failure of the electricity and water supplies. 

Rajoelina said in a speech on national television that Prime Minister Christian Ntsay and other government officials would stay on an interim basis until a new government is formed. He invited applications for government positions and gave a three-day time frame to review proposals for a new prime minister.

The U.S. president seems to be betting that the militants are now so decimated that they have no choice but to accept what he and Netanyahu are framing as a last, best offer.

Israel has been pounding Gaza’s largest medical complex, levelling whole blocks and sending terrified patients scrambling for safety as its army continued a ground operation to seize Gaza City.   

Doctors inside al-Shifa Hospital on Sunday described “horrific scenes” as many were forced to flee despite needing urgent care. Hasan al-Sha’ir, the hospital’s medical director, said that staff have continued to work “despite the harsh conditions and overwhelming fear”. 

At Least 4 Killed in Major Russian Drone, Missile Attack on Ukraine’s Kyiv

At least four people have been killed, including a 12-year-old girl, and 14 injured, as Russia launched a major drone and missile attack on the Ukrainian capital and the surrounding region. 

An air raid alert was in place over the Kyiv region early on Sunday, with the local military administration saying Russia was attacking with drones and missiles. 

The head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said early findings had identified three deaths, which were swiftly updated after another body was found.  

At Least 60 Palestinians Killed in Gaza as Netanyahu Vows to ‘Finish Job’

Israel’s military has killed dozens more Palestinians across Gaza in its latest attacks, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to “finish the job” against Hamas during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.   

Medical sources told Al Jazeera that 60 people were killed across the besieged and bombarded Palestinian territory on Friday. 

At least 30 of the victims were killed in Gaza City, where Israel has escalated its attacks since launching a ground operation on September 16. 

The Netherlands is Returning a Fossil Collection Taken from Indonesia in the Colonial Era

The Dutch government has agreed to return thousands of fossils to Indonesia from a world-renowned collection, after a commission ruled that they were removed in the colonial era “against the will of the people,” the education ministry announced Friday. 

The historically significant trove known as the Dubois Collection includes a piece of skull uncovered from the Solo River on the island of Java that is regarded as the first fossil evidence of Homo erectus. 

Israeli Strikes Pound Yemen’s Capital as Houthi Leader Decries Gaza War

The Israeli military has launched air strikes on the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, Al Masirah TV reported. 

Thursday’s strikes were confirmed by an Israeli army spokesperson, who said forces used dozens of warplanes and air support units to target the alleged “command headquarters of the Houthi General Staff” and “compounds” of the group’s security and intelligence apparatus.
